Postdoc Position (m/f) in numerical ocean modelling and data analysis
The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Postdoc Position (m/f) in numerical ocean modelling and data analysis. The position is limited to 32 month. The place of employment is Geesthacht.
The candidate is expected to conduct research designed to understand changes in tidal dynamics in the North Sea and the German Bight in particular. The research focuses on changes in tidal dynamics and potential drivers, numerical modelling, and analysis of observational and model data. Specific tasks of the researcher will include adaptation of model source code, numerical model experiments and analysis and interpretation of model output and observational data in conjunction with theoretical concepts.
Profile of qualifications:
The successful applicants will have a University degree in Physics, Mathematics, Physical Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or related disciplines. A background in modelling and programming, in particular in ocean and/or tide-surge modelling is desirable. Good skills in scientific programming (FORTRAN) as well as working with computers (Unix/Linux) are expected, as well as good knowledge of the English language (written and oral). The research will be carried out within a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and in close cooperation with scientists from participating partner institutes as well as with international partners. Ability and willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team are therefore required.
